Lincoln ? The Nebraska Athletic Department and NET Television announced Thursday that eight Husker volleyball matches will be aired on the network during the upcoming season.
The first of NET’s eight broadcasts will be shown on Sunday, Sept. 13, as the third-ranked Huskers play host to No. 9 UCLA at the Devaney Center as part of the Ameritas Players Challenge. Fans will be able to watch the Huskers begin their quest for a sixth straight Big 12 title three days later, as NET will carry NU’s Big 12 opener against Texas Tech on Wednesday, Sept. 16.. In all, seven Big 12 contests will be carried live on NET, including matchups with No. 3 Texas (Sept. 26), Kansas (Oct. 7), No. 22 Kansas State (Oct. 10), No. 13 Iowa State (Oct. 21), Missouri and Baylor.
All of the Huskers’ matches will be carried on NET-1 (Ch. 12) and shown in high definition on NET-HD (Ch. 112 on most cable systems across the state) with the NET broadcast team of Larry Punteney and Kathi Weiskamp bringing fans all of the action. For fans outside the state of Nebraska, all NET-originating matches will be carried for free on Huskers.com.
In addition to those eight matches, NET will also carry the CBS College Sports presentation of the Runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha on Aug. 28-29, where the Huskers will take on No. 16 Michigan and No. 11 Minnesota. Outside of Nebraska, those matches will be aired on the CBS College Sports Network (Ch. 613 on DirecTV and Ch. 152 on Dish Network). There will be no live Internet streaming of the Runza/AVCA Showcase.
Today’s announcement means that volleyball fans will be able to see the Huskers on television 13 times during the regular season. Nebraska’s matches at Texas A&M (Sept. 23) and at Oklahoma (Sept. 30) will be carried on ESPNU, while the Huskers’ match at No. 2 Texas will be carried nationally on FSN. All three matches were included in the Big 12’s announcement of the conference TV schedule last week. In addition, every match is carried on the Husker Sports Radio Network and on the Internet at Huskers.com.
Tickets for next weekend’s Runza/AVCA Showcase are on sale at the Qwest Center box office and at Ticketmaster locations around Nebraska or by visiting Ticketmaster.com.
