No. 1 Corner West Stays Focused On Keeping His Blackshirt

Anthony West is all business in Fall Camp, and that's the way it should be as Nebraska coaches begin an intensive two-week evaluation period to determine a depth chart.

West, of course, is a solid favorite to keep the Blackshirt he wore while starting 11 games last season as a sophomore.

The Huskers' anchor cornerback, however, is far from satisfied with the meteoric rise the Huskers made from being one the nation's worst defensive teams in 2007 to the second best defense in the Big 12 Conference one year later.

Strides continue to be made on a daily basis, but West says the Blackshirts won't be satisfied until they become a physically dominant unit that tracks with their traditional reputation.

"We're all working hard to be a lot better on defense than we were a year ago," West said.

A San Diego native, West became a more significant factor as the season wore on in 2008. He broke up three passes and had five solo tackles and six stops overall against Kansas. In the Huskers' Gator Bowl win over Clemson, he came up with a key interception in the second quarter.

Once he gets the ball, Nebraska Secondary Coach Marvin Sanders says that West is a gifted athlete who has the ability show how he rushed for 1,320 yards and 14 touchdowns and caught 17 passes for 341 yards and four more touchdowns as a senior in high school.

Today, West takes a break and provides some personal answers to quick questions on Quick Hits, the Huskers.com video series.
