Nebraska opens practice for the 2009 football season on Saturday, Aug. 8. The Huskers began the day with their annual Fan Day at Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning. Approximately 7,500 fans took the field with the Nebraska players and coaches beginning at 9:30 a.m. for 90 minutes of autographs, photographs and fun.
At 10 a.m., the line for Coach Bo Pelini's autograph stretched 275 yards and was generally three or four people across. Many Nebraska players stayed on the field to sign autographs following the 90-minute session, including Bellevue, Neb., native Matt O'Hanlon. The senior safety out of Bellevue East was the last Husker player off the field, staying on the filed for approximately an extra 20 minutes.
Pelini and Husker assistants also stayed beyond the 90-minute allotted time to sign autographs for fans. Assistant Athletic Director for Football Jeff Jamrog, Associate Head Coach Barney Cotton and Assistant Coach Ron Brown were the last three coaches on the field, signing until well after 11:30 a.m.
Following Fan Day, select Nebraska players were available to the media in the Don Bryant Media Facility on Level 6 of Memorial Stadium. Transcripts of several interviews with Husker players can be accessed at the following links.
