How Do You See Huskers in 2009 Role as Big 12 North Division Favorites?

The Big 12 media has tabbed Nebraska the favorite to win the conference’s North Division championship in 2009.

Andre Ware, the first black quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy (in 1989), recently went out on a limb and predicted a 9-3 regular-season finish for the Huskers as ESPN and College Football Live took an inside look at “the current state of Nebraska football.”

Ware didn’t specify which games he envisions Nebraska losing. But the former University of Houston quarterback , who set 26 NCAA records before becoming a first-round NFL draft choice of the Detroit Lions, said the Huskers faced tough roadblocks at Virginia Tech and against Oklahoma in Lincoln.

Regarding Big 12 North road games at Missouri, Kansas and Colorado, Ware – a member of the Houston Texans’ NFL radio broadcast team – said the Huskers  “will do fine” against the Tigers and  Buffaloes.

In a 73-second prediction segment on ESPN, Ware sees the Huskers having “a season similar to last year” and predicts that Nebraska will win the North Division title outright. Last season, the Huskers shared the North title with Missouri, which won the tie-breaker after both finished with 5-3 records.

A new Huskers.com Fan Poll gives Nebraska fans the chance to see how your thoughts line up with the network TV analysts.

In predicting results for a 12-game regular-season schedule, your choices range from Nebraska winning “six games or fewer” to the Huskers winning “12 games or more”. The post-season possibilities are the Big 12 championship game Dec. 5 in Arlington, Texas, and a bowl game.

By Friday morning, more than 2,900 fans had voted in the Huskers.com poll, which ends at 8 p.m. Friday, July 31.
