Norman, Okla. --- Nebraska senior Brandon Crick continued his strong run at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on Friday, as the McCook native won his quarterfinal match in 19 holes over Eddie Olson of Aptos, Calif., at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
With the win, Crick advances to Friday afternoon's semifinals (12:45 p.m. start) against Brad Benjamin of Rockford, Ill. Follow the live results here at the USGA's web site.
Crick came from behind as Olson took a 1 up lead on the third hole and improved to 2 up with a birdie on the sixth, the same hole that Crick bogeyed. Crick then cut into the deficit by winning No. 10 with a birdie and evened it with a par on No. 12. Olson jumped back ahead to go 1 up on 13 and after Crick again evened it on 14 with his second birdie of the day, Olson took a 1 up lead on 15, which he maintained until the 18th. On the final hole of regulation, Crick parred the 584-yard hole while Olson bogeyed, leading to an extra hole. Crick then parred to take the win over 19 holes.
Crick will take on Benjamin, who defeated San Yi of Carrollton, Texas, 5 and 3, with the winner set to take on either Nick Taylor of Canada or Phillip Bryan of Norman, Okla. Taylor won 2 and 1 over Wesley Bryan of Chapin, S.C., while Phillip Bryan defeated Sam Lyons of Myrtle Beach, S.C., 1 up.
The winners of Friday afternoon's semis will advance to the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship final, which will take place Saturday starting at 7 a.m. The champion will receive a spot in next year's Master's at Augusta National.
