Women's Basketball

Griesch's The Word (Aug. 4)

Hello Husker Fans,

I've been away from the blog too long - almost three weeks. Since the last time I presented my report about "what I did on my summer vacation" a lot has happened.

Nebraska Director of Basketball Operations Angela Timmons, became Angela Kiffin with a lovely wedding and reception at the Sunken Garden and Cornhusker Hotel. My son Jackson loved the fish in the ponds and the waterfall at the Sunken Garden, and he and my daughter Hollan loved the candy table at the reception. Hollan ate too much candy and didn't even eat the meal.

Nebraska Head Coach Connie Yori participated in RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa), and my daughter Hollan actually learned how to ride her bike. Matt Coatney and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles actually started issuing driver's licenses again, and he has been touring the court houses and community hubs of towns across the great state of Nebraska.

Jessica Periago also recently started working in the Media Relations Office at Nebraska. The 6-4 center from France has been helping me with the upcoming media guide and doing some great work with photos of her teammates in PhotoShop. She has done a great job with the tasks I've assigned her and is eager to learn something new every day.

Of course, the coaches have been busy recruiting and finishing up summer camps and are now getting ready to focus on more recruiting, the start of school and the beginning of the season at hand.

We've also been spending some time putting together our plans for promoting the upcoming season. In fact, tomorrow the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office will begin a special Tip-Off Ticket promotion that will run from Aug. 5 through Sept. 11. Fans will be able to buy single-game tickets for $1 off their regular prices for any game this season.

The Huskers have another great schedule ahead of them, featuring non-conference showdowns with LSU and Creighton in a solid eight-game non-conference home schedule. A challenging Big 12 Conference home slate will feature six games against 2009 postseason teams.

It is the earliest we have ever sold single-game women's basketball tickets at Nebraska, and hopefully it will give us an opportunity to spread the word about our team even more. We also hope to have a national TV schedule from ESPN and FSN coming soon from the Big 12 Conference.

Feel free to send me any of your suggestions to promote the Huskers this season. You can always reach me at jgriesch@huskers.com.

Go Big Red!
