Stevenson Wins Nebraska Stroke Play

Lincoln - JC Stevenson fired a final-round 76 to close at 155 and win her second Nebraska State Stroke Play championship at the Country Club of Lincoln on Wednesday.

Stevenson, a senior for the Huskers in 2009-10, defeated fellow Grand Island native Abby Bartlett by one stroke for the win. Stevenson captured her first Nebraska Women's State Stroke Play crown in 2006.

Former Husker Heidi (Wall) Stark of Lincoln, who was Nebraska's first CoSIDA Academic All-American women's golfer in 1996, added a seventh-place showing with a 164, while Husker sophomore-to-be Kayla Knopik from Papillion tied for eighth at 165.

Husker junior-to-be Rachel Hanigan from Dunlap, Iowa, tied for 13th (168), while Nebaska Coach Robin Krapfl finished 20th (171).

In other recent, Husker golf news, Nebraska sophomore-to-be Maddie Sheils (Boise, Idaho) captured the Idaho State Stroke Play title last week with an impressive three-round total of 217 (74-72-71).

Nebraska incoming freshman Erin Sharpee (Green Bay, Wis.) also advanced to the quarterfinals at the prestigious Women's Western Open last week. Sharpee qualified as the No. 9 finisher in the stroke play portion of the competition.
