Six Huskers Earn Honor Roll Spots

Lincoln - Six Nebraska women's golfers were among an impressive list of 302 Nebraska student-athletes across all sports who claimed spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll, the University of Nebraska announced on Monday, June 15.

Among the 302 student-athletes who achieved 3.0 or better grade-point averages during the semester, 52 Huskers posted perfect 4.0 GPAs, including women's golfers Megan Place and Carolyn Schorgl.

Place, a fifth-year senior from Omaha, Neb., posted a 4.0 GPA in her final semester before earning her bachelor's degree in art history and criticism from Nebraska in May. Schorgl, a freshman business administration major from Leawood, Kan., added a perfect semester of her own during her first spring at Nebraska.

Place and Schorgl were joined on the Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll by teammates Rachel Hanigan, Maddie Sheils, JC Stevenson and Charlotte Wendner.

Overall Nebraska's representation on the spring honor roll marked a nearly 12 percent increase over last spring, when 270 Huskers earned honor roll spots. Along with the 32 additional members of the spring honor roll, 16 more Huskers posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages this spring compared to the 36 4.0 GPAs notched by NU student-athletes in the spring of 2008.

Nebraska's approach to recruiting the nation's finest student-athletes yielded a remarkably diverse contingent of spring academic honorees that included representatives of 30 U.S. states and 29 student-athletes from 12 foreign countries, including honor roll members from four Canadian provinces. Husker honor roll members also came to Nebraska from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, England, Finland, France, Germany, Jamaica, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The Huskers' Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll class also carried a distinct state flavor with 122 native Nebraskans among the 302 award winners.
