20 Huskers Named to Big 12 Honor Roll

Lincoln ? Selenia Iacchelli and Shay Powell posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the spring semester to lead a contingent of 20 Nebraska women’s soccer players named to the 2009 Spring Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Student athletes must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA to earn the honor.

Iacchelli, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, earned her bachelor’s degree in nutritional science and dietetics in May during spring commencement ceremonies. She was a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and was named to the honor roll nine times.

Powell, a junior from Dallas, Texas, is a two-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection, and earned her sixth selection to the honor roll this spring. She has an overall 3.9 GPA. Fellow juniors Carly Peetz and Anna Caniglia also have been named to the Big 12 Honor Roll six times.

An impressive list of 302 Nebraska student-athletes across all sports claimed spots on the honor roll, including 52 Huskers who posted perfect 4.0 GPAs. Nebraska's representation on the spring honor roll marked a nearly 12 percent increase over last spring, when 270 Huskers earned honor roll spots. Along with the 32 additional members of the spring honor roll, 16 more Huskers posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages this spring compared to the 36 4.0 GPAs notched by NU student-athletes in the spring of 2008.
