Spots Remain Available for Dinner/Auction at Doc Sadler Golf Classic

The Nebraska Athletic Department and the Rebounders Club, the booster organization for the Nebraska basketball team, have announced that a number of spots remain available for fans to join the fun at the dinner and auction at the third annual Doc Sadler Golf Classic set for Friday, June 26.

The team limit has been reached for the golf event earlier that day, but fans can still enjoy the atmosphere with the former players and athletic department staff at the dinner and auction, which will start at approximately 5 p.m. This year’s outing will again take place at Hillcrest Country Club (8901 O Street) and will have a four-man Husker Scramble format with a shotgun start to begin the day at 11:30 a.m.

The cost is $45 per person for the steak dinner. Following dinner, the auction has become one of the primary fund-raising events for the Rebounders Club over the past two years. See the attached registration form (PDF) for more information.

While there are more than 30 teams already registered to participate for bragging rights on the course ? current Rebounders Club members were given first priority to sign up early ? there are still a number of hole sponsorship opportunities available for local companies. For companies looking to sponsor a hole, see the attached registration form (PDF) for more information.

This day at the golf course is a great way for individuals interested in finding out more about the Rebounders Club to socialize with the Huskers, according to Rebounders Club president Paul Garnett.

“This has really become more than an event; it’s become a yearly tradition for a great number of the former players and the supports of the basketball program,” Garnett said. “Everyone who has been associated the past two years has said there’s nothing else like it. The atmosphere is one-of-a-kind with Doc Sadler running around behind the scenes, and I know people who left the course last year and couldn’t wait for the one this summer. The bar has been raised each of the past two years and we expect to do it again at the end of this month.”

For the third year in a row, the Rebounders Club has invited former Husker basketball letterwinners and coaches to return to Lincoln for what has turned into a celebration of Husker basketball past and present. Over the past two years, the sellout events have drawn rave reviews from all of the past Huskers who have attended.

Last year, Fort was the featured returning player as he made his way back to Lincoln for the first time since the early 1990s when he was inducted to the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame. This season, another all-time Husker great will be attending his first Sadler Golf Classic. Stu Lantz, who still ranks 14th on the Nebraska all-time scoring chart with 1,269 points between 1966 and 1968, will be joining the fun as the Rebounders Club helps raise money to support the efforts of coach Sadler and the basketball program.
