Crystal Carwile highlighted a list of four Husker seniors named All-Big 12 this week. Carwile joined classmates Amanda Duran and Meghan Mullin on the second team, while Molly Hill was a first-team selection. Carwile earned All-Big 12 honors every year of her career, as she is the eighth Husker to be a four-time All-Big 12 selection.
Carwile was a second-team all-conference selection in 2006 and 2007 and a first-team pick last year. A native of Chino, Calif., Carwile played through a torn ACL this season but continued to produce. She’s batting .319 this season, while leading NU with five homers and 36 RBIs and ranking second with nine doubles.
In the circle, Hill was Nebraska’s lone first-team honoree after earning second-team honors in 2007. A native of Wayne, Neb., Hill is 24-12 on the season with a 1.36 ERA. She leads the Big 12 in wins, while ranking among the top three in the conference in ERA, strikeouts, innings, appearances, saves, starts and complete games. In league games only, Hill tied for the conference lead in shutouts, while finishing second in wins and ERA.
Hill’s battery mate Amanda Duran garnered the first All-Big 12 award of her career. A native of Tucson, Ariz., Duran joined the Huskers last season but missed most of the conference season with a broken hand. She returned this season and has been outstanding at the plate and behind the dish. In addition to hitting a team-high .354, Duran ranks fourth in the league in on-base percentage, fifth in walks, sixth in doubles and ninth in average. Defensively, Duran has thrown out the highest percentage of base stealers of any catcher in the conference.
Mullin earned a spot on the All-Big 12 second team for the second straight year. After posting the Huskers’ top batting average the past two seasons, Mullin currently ranks second this year with a .333 average. A native of Mesa, Ariz., Mullin leads the Huskers with 52 hits, 42 runs, 28 walks and 19 stolen bases. She ranks fourth in the Big 12 in walks, fifth in runs scored, sixth in stolen bases and 18th in average.
NU’s four all-conference selections ranked fifth in the league. OU led the league with eight All-Big 12 picks.
