Aumueller Earns Big 12 Newcomer of the Year

Lincoln--- After one of the most successful freshman campaigns in Nebraska history, Christopher Aumueller was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year on Wednesday, May 6.  The German native is the first Husker men’s tennis player to earn an individual post-season award.

Aumueller earned the award after going 18-6 this season while playing in the Huskers’ top three spots.  His 18 victories were good enough for second on the team behind senior Hendrik Stahmer and placed him 19th on the all-time Nebraska single-season victories list. During the season, Aumueller played primarily at the No. 3 spot for the Huskers where he collected a record of 12-4 and was 5-1 when playing at the No. 2 spot.  In Big 12 play, Aumueller had an impressive 4-2 record which included a victory over All-Big 12 team member and No. 44-ranked Jordan Rux (Baylor) on April 4. For his efforts on the court, Aumueller is ranked at No. 101 in the national singles rankings.

In doubles play, Aumueller and fellow freshman Benedikt Lindheim recorded a 14-8 record while playing primarily at the No. 2 spot for the Huskers.

In other individual awards, Oleksander Nedovyesov (OklahomaState) picked up Player of the Year accolades for the second straight season, while Raony Carvalho (Texas Tech) was the recipient of Freshman of the Year.  Matt Knoll (Baylor) and Steve Denton (Texas A&M) were named Coaches of the Year.
