Huskers Sign Talented Dutch Player

Jamie Trenite, a talented left-handed player from Amsterdam, Netherlands, signed his letter of intent to play tennis for the Nebraska men’s tennis team on Wednesday, April 22.  Trenite, who was one of the top under-18 players in the Netherlands, will be eligible to play next fall.

Assistant coach Joerg Barthel was the lead recruiter for Trenite and thinks he can have an immediate impact on the Husker lineup.

“He is going to make a major impact in our lineup right away,” Barthel said. “I’m going to compare him to Christopher Aumueller.  He is very aggressive from the baseline and is coming in as a left handed player.  He has competed at a high level already so he knows what it takes to compete in the Big 12. I expect him to be playing in our top three or four spots right away.”

Trenite is the first Husker recruit to come from the Netherlands since at least 1994 and joins fellow signee Eric Sock as the only two recruits scheduled to join the Husker program in the fall of 2009.

The Huskers return to action on Friday, April 24, when they face off against Texas A&M in the first round of the Big 12 Championship at noon.
