Three Huskers Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

Lincoln - For the second straight year, Nebraska men's golfer Trent Price earned Academic All-Big 12 first team honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Chris Bruening and Andrew Wyatt garnered second-team honors as well, marking their first career appearances on the list.

Price, a senior business administration major and Lincoln Southeast grad, recorded a team-best 3.5 GPA. He is only the third Husker since the formation of the Big 12 to make at least two career appearances on the Academic All-Big 12 first team, joining Steve Friesen (1997-98-99) and Brady Schnell (2006-07).

Bruening, a senior management major, posted a 3.0 GPA, and Wyatt, a sophomore finance major, earned a 3.06 GPA.

This year's Academic All-Big 12 first team included 25 golfers from all 12 of the Big 12 schools. First team members carry GPAs of 3.20 or better. The second team included 11 members, who carry a GPA from 3.00 to 3.19.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Huskers compete this week at the Big 12 Championship, to be played April 27-29 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
