Lincoln - The Nebraska men’s basketball team held a two-hour clinic for the Jr. Red Zone on Sunday, March 29. Players, coaches and staff taught a group of 65 youngsters, ranging from three years old to 12, the basic fundamentals of basketball, including passing, dribbling, ball-handling and shooting.
“It’s a great way to add a feature to our Jr. Red Zone,” Director of Basketball Operations Chris Croft said. “These guys and girls are great, some of them come to almost every game. It’s a great way to wrap up the season, and good for our players to see all these kids that they see all the time during the season.”
The youngsters were split up into six stations, where members of the team, coaches and staff were there to instruct them in various drills. Croft looks at it as a precursor to some of the camps that the team will offer this summer.
“It’s a win-win all around,” Croft said. “One, for the kids to do something fun to wrap up Jr. Red Zone, two, for our players to be around them, and three, to remind the kids about camp coming up, and hopefully getting them back there.”
Several players were on hand to help at the clinic, including guard Brandon Richardson, who helped out at a ball-handling and dribbling station.
“It’s very fun,” Richardson said. “I remember when I used to be in that spot when I was young, so I know what they’re going through and I know how much fun they’re having.”
