Aggies Upend Huskers

Lincoln - The Nebraska women’s tennis team fell to the No. 43 Texas A&M Aggies 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the NebraskaTennisCenter. With the loss, the Huskers move to 2-2 in Big 12 play and 10-3 overall, while the Aggies earned their fourth straight win, improving to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the Big 12.

The Huskers were competitive in every match, but ultimately weren’t able to win points when they needed them most. Texas A&M started the match by taking the doubles point. Nebraska lost at No. 3 doubles, but came back with a victory at No. 1. The Aggies held off a late Husker comeback in No. 2 doubles to win 8-6, giving A&M a 1-0 lead going into singles play.

Nebraska won the first two completed singles matches, with both Wiveca Swarting at No. 4 and Madeleine Geibert at No. 1 winning in straight sets. Shortly after, the Aggies won two singles matches of their own, at No. 2 and No. 5, to make it a 3-2 Texas A&M lead. Christi Liles sealed the match for the Aggies with her victory at No. 3 singles. A&M added another victory at No. 6 singles for the final 5-2 margin.

The Huskers will look to end their three-match slide tomorrow morning when they square off with No. 27 Texas. First serve at the NebraskaTennisCenter is set for 11 a.m.
