Lincoln - The NCAA sent out its invitations for the women's gymnastics regional championships on Monday afternoon, setting the six-team field at the NCAA Southeast Regional. Competition will be hosted by North Carolina State University at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, April 4 at 5 p.m. (CST).
Nebraska, which is 13-5 on the season and ranked 13th nationally, will face No. 1 Georgia, the four-time defending NCAA Champion, in addition to No. 12 Penn State, No. 21 West Virginia, North Carolina State and North Carolina. The competition also includes five all-around competitors and one individual event specialist per event. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors, who are not on an advancing team, will receive an automatic berth to the 2009 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, April 16-18. In addition, the event winners will advance to the national championships if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
As the regional's No. 3 seed, Nebraska will open the competition on floor, followed by vault, bye, bars, beam and ending with a bye.
NU’s duo of All-Americans ? senior Tricia Woo and junior Kylie Stone ? will lead the Huskers into the Southeast Regional after combining for four All-Big 12 honors last week. NU will also be led by Big 12 bars champion Brittney Williams and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Lora Evenstad.
