Woo Honored With Weekly Big 12 Award

Irving, Texas ? Senior Tricia Woo was honored as Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. She was recognized for the fourth time this season and the sixth time in her career.

 

Woo was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week after helping the Huskers in a two-meet weekend with a dual at No.7 UCLA and a quadrangular at Arizona State. The senior All-American took first on beam (9.925) against the Bruins, as well as second on vault (9.90) and floor (9.925). In Tempe, Woo was a runner-up on vault with a score of 9.90 and also finished fourth on beam and floor with a pair of 9.875 marks. She is the nation’s third-ranked beam worker and is 13th on floor.

 

In addition, Missouri’s Sarah Shire was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week. She captured her ninth all-around crown of the year with a 39.475, in addition to the vault (9.825) and bars (9.90) titles, in No. 13 Missouri’s 196.425-195.95 upset of No. 9 Oregon State. Shire’s nine all-around wins are a single-season record in Missouri history, and she owns a total of 26 individual event titles in 2009. She is ranked 10th nationally in the all-around, sixth on beam and ninth on vault.

 

The Huskers travel to Ames, Iowa for the Big 12 Championships on March 21. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Iowa State’s Hilton Coliseum.
