Evenstad Named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week

Irving, Texas ? Freshman Lora Evenstad was honored as Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. She was recognized for the first time of her collegiate career.

 

Evenstad was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week after claiming the first event titles of her career, winning vault (9.875) and floor (9.925) in the Huskers’ 196.15-195.70 win over No. 21 Iowa State. The freshman produced career highs on all three events, also posting a 9.80 to finish sixth on bars. Evenstad had previously placed second on floor against Utah and at Nebraska’s Masters Classic. She has produced a solid freshman campaign for NU, helping the Husker squad to a No. 12 national ranking.

 

In addition, Missouri’s Sarah Shire was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week. She won her eighth all-around title of the season and a share of the beam title at the Eagle Invitational, as No. 13 Missouri finished first with a team score of 195.70. Shire notched a 39.375 all-around mark and a 9.825 on beam in her two individual wins.

 

The Huskers conclude the regular season with a pair of road meets at Arizona State and UCLA. Nebraska travels to face the Sun Devils on March 13 in Tempe, Ariz., before taking on the Bruins on March 15 in Los Angeles.
