NU Claims 3-0 Mark in Arizona

Lincoln ? Junior Lauren Isenhower posted three goals to help the Nebraska soccer team claim a 9-1 goal advantage and two shutouts in three games on Saturday in Tempe, Ariz. Wins over Southern Utah, Arizona State and Washington State moved the Huskers to 3-1-1 in spring competition this season.

Isenhower notched two scores in the first game of the day, as NU rolled past Southern Utah 5-0. The Lenexa, Kan., native notched a goal in each half, while sophomore Colleen Goetzman also found the back of the net in the first half. The Huskers poured it on in the second frame with scores from sophomores Anna White and Michaella Fulmer. Nebraska Goalkeepers Tara Macdonald and Jessica Mills combined for the shutout.

Isenhower iced NU’s second game of the day with her late goal against the Sun Devils to give Nebraska a 3-1 win. After entering halftime knotted at zero, the Huskers got on the scoreboard first courtesy of sophomore Alexa Cardona. Junior Shay Powell claimed a penalty-kick goal before ASU scored on a penalty kick of its own to pull within one. Isenhower’s third goal of the day sealed the win, while Mills played the whole game in net.

NU wrapped up the day with a 1-0 victory over a Washington State team that qualified for the NCAA tournament last season. The Huskies applied heavy offensive pressure throughout the contest, but Macdonald made several point-blank saves to keep WSU off the scoreboard. Sophomore Jaclyn White posted the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the game.

Nebraska continues its spring season with two home contests at the Nebraska Soccer Field on March 28. The Huskers square off against Denver at 9 a.m. and face South Dakota State at 1 p.m.
