Kostal Finishes Third in Smallbore at GARC Championships

Oxford, Miss. - Led by Katie Kostal's career-best 582 in smallbore, the Nebraska rifle team is in third place after day one of the Great American Rifle Conference Championships Saturday. The seven-team field will wrap up the tournament with the air rifle competition Sunday.

Kostal was the star for the Huskers. The Huskers' No. 4 shooter bettered her previous top smallbore mark of the season by seven points. Her 582 qualified her for the smallbore finals, where she finished third overall with a score of 676.9.  

The Huskers shot a 2,293 aggregate in smallbore, their highest score since Jan. 17. Kentucky leads with a score of 2,310. West Virginia is second at 2,295. Both the Wildcats and Mountaineers have qualified for the NCAA Championships, while Nebraska is shooting for pride this weekend.

Amanda Jeffries scored 574 for NU. Christine Costello recorded a 572, and Ryann McGough finished at 565. Ashley Lane, competing as an individual, shot a 560.
