Huskers Open Spring Schedule at Florida

Lincoln ? The Nebraska soccer team opens its spring schedule Friday with a pair of contests against Florida and South Florida. The Huskers take on the Gators at 3:30 p.m CT, before squaring off against the Bulls at 5 p.m. CT. Both contests will be held at Florida’s James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville.

Friday’s action will be one of several road competitions for NU this spring, as the Huskers continue their travels by visiting Tempe, Ariz., for three games on March 7. Nebraska will also trek west to face USC on April 5 and visit Minneapolis to play Minnesota and North Dakota State on April 18.

NU will host two schools during the spring season, battling Denver and South Dakota State on March 28. The Huskers square off with the Pioneers at 9 a.m. and the Jackrabbits at 1 p.m., with both games played at the Nebraska Soccer Field. Nebraska hosts its annual Alumni Game Sunday, April 19, at 10 a.m.

Fans are reminded that spring games are not included on season records and may not be played to regulation. The games are intended to serve as training tools for collegiate programs.

Nebraska finished the 2008 season with a 10-9-1 overall record, including 6-4 in the Big 12, to claim fifth place in the final conference standings. The Huskers also posted impressive marks in the classroom, as a conference-leading 15 NU players were named to the 2008 academic All-Big 12 team. Nebraska lost five seniors to graduation, including starters Aysha Jamani, Brittany Pfeil and Lindsay Poehling and key midfielders Sari Raber and Selenia Iacchelli. The Huskers signed seven players who will join the team this fall, and also added transfer Tara Macdonald who will play with the squad this spring.
