Stone Named Big 12 Co-Gymnast of the Week

Irving, Texas ? Junior Kylie Stone was honored as Big 12 Co-Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. She was recognized for the first time this year and the second time in her career. Stone shares the award with Missouri’s Sarah Shire.

Stone, an All-American on vault, won four event titles against Iowa State last Friday. She finished first on vault (9.85), beam (9.85), floor (9.875) and the all-around (39.35). The Calgary, Alberta, native nabbed her second-straight all-around crown, while recording a career-high-tying mark on beam. Stone is ranked 15th in the nation in the all-around and 19th on floor.

Shire led No. 10 Missouri to a 194.725-194.475 win at Arizona State, capturing her second straight all-around crown with a score of 39.35 to tie her season high. Shire also won the beam title with a career-best 9.925 and matched her season bests on bars (9.775) and floor (9.80). Shire is tied for second nationally on beam, as well as seventh in the all-around and 14th on vault.

 

In addition, Oklahoma’s Hollie Vise was honored as Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week.

Stone and Shire will square off this weekend, as No. 13 Nebraska travels to No. 12 Missouri this Friday, Jan. 23. Competition is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Hearnes Center.
