Husker student-athletes Patrick Burke and Rachel Schwartz joined Governor Dave Heineman to kick off N-Lighten Nebraska in Lincoln on Monday, Jan. 5.
N-Lighten Nebraska is a three-month, team wellness program conducted by the Nebraska Sports Council to promote a healthy lifestyle for Nebraskans. This team-formatted program provides a unique layout that encourages teammates to work together to achieve a common goal of living healthier lives.
Burke, Schwartz and Governor Heineman spoke on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity to ensure overall wellness. They led the way on a walk for 30 minutes around the Nebraska State Capitol Building, followed by Nebraska state employees, as the group promoted the beginning of N-Lighten Nebraska.
Burke and Schwartz have been among Nebraska’s most involved student-athlete leaders. Burke, a track and field athlete, is the current Student Athlete Advisory Committee President. Schwartz, a volleyball student-athlete, was a senior tri-captain and has been instrumental in the Husker volleyball team winning back-to-back Life Skills Awards of Excellence.
