Bingham Inducted into NAIA Hall of Fame

Nebraska assistant baseball coach Dave Bingham earned a prestigious honor this week, as he was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame during the annual American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) convention in San Diego.

Bingham, who is in his fourth season on the Husker staff, was one of two coaches in the 2009 Hall of Fame Class, joining Spring Arbor (Mich.) coach Sam Riggleman.

Bingham spent 14 years at Emporia State, compiling a 588-270-2 record. The Hornets won 11 district titles, eight conference championships and five regional titles during Bingham’s tenure at ESU. Bingham guided Emporia State to five NAIA World Series appearances, including a NAIA National Championship in 1978. He was named NAIA National Coach of the Year three times (1976, 1984, 1986) and left Emporia in 1987 to become the head coach at the University of Kansas, where he led the Jayhawks to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA College World Series in 1993. In addition to his collegiate coaching experiences, he served on the coaching staff for several USA Baseball teams, including the silver medal U.S. Olympic team in 1984 and the 1988 gold medal team.
