Huskers in the NFL - Week 16

Lincoln - A total of 24 former Huskers saw action in NFL games in Week 16. Former Husker and nine-year NFL veteran Russ Hochstein started at fullback and saw time in short-yardage situations at the position for the first time in his career for the New England Patriots in a 47-7 drumming of the Arizona Cardinals. Before Sunday, Hochstein had played in 90 games as an offensive lineman, making 18 starts.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Five former Huskers matched up in Detroit as the Lions met the Saints, including former Husker safeties Josh and Daniel Bullocks, former Husker linemen Dominic Raiola and Carl Nicks and former linebacker Scott Shanle. Daniel totaled seven tackles for the Lions while Josh led the Saints in tackles with 10, with Shanle chipping in another four. Nicks and the Saints’ offense got the best of Raiola’s Lions as New Orleans totaled 532 total yards, including 351 yards through the air from Drew Brees. The Saints won the game easily 42-7.

Barrett Ruud continued to dominate from his middle linebacker spot as he totaled double-digit tackles for the third time in his last four games. Ruud’s 11 tackles on Sunday against the Chargers were not enough as the Bucs fell 41-24. The Bucs now need help to get into the playoffs as they will need to beat Oakland next week, while also needing a victory from the Eagles over the Cowboys

Stewart Bradley’s team-leading 10 tackles came up short as the Philadelphia Eagles dropped a much needed game against the Washington Redskins, 10-3. With the victory, the Eagles would have controlled their own playoff destiny, but now they will need to beat Dallas at home, while also needing losses by Tampa Bay and Chicago.
