Three Huskers Earn Degrees

Lincoln - Three members of the Nebraska women’s soccer team earned their degrees during winter commencement ceremonies on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Tanya Dennis, Sari Raber and Brigid (Kenny) Woodhead joined 24 other NU student-athletes in the 2008 December class of graduates.

Sari Raber
Raber, a native of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, was a leader on and off the field for the past five seasons. She made 67 starts, while appearing in 77 games, and finished her career with 24 points on eight goals and eight assists. She notched 81 shots, including 39 on goal. She has spent time with the Canadian under-19 and under-20 national teams, while also making one cap for the Canadian senior national team.

In the classroom, Raber was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team this season, and earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors the past three seasons. A psychology major, Raber has been on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll eight times.

A team captain the last two seasons, Raber received the Highest Honors Medallion from Nebraska three times and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), while also volunteering around the community. She was named an Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars Award recipient the last two seasons.

Tanya Dennis

A central defender, Dennis wrapped up her career at Nebraska in 2006, leading the Huskers to a 10-7-3 record in her senior season. The native of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, appeared in 64 games and started 62, including every contest her final three seasons. She finished with 16 points on four goals and eight assists. Dennis anchored a defense that allowed just 89 shots on goal for 23 opponent goals in 2006. Thanks in large part to her work, NU opponents averaged just over one goal per game and only 12.5 shots per contest.

Dennis was named to the All-Big 12 first team in 2004, and garnered second-team honors in 2006. She was a member of the Canadian senior national team and played with the squad in the 2003 World Cup.

Academically, Dennis earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior, after being on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll four times. She majored in psychology.

Brigid (Kenny) Woodhead

Woodhead was a student manager for the Huskers in 2006 and 2007, after playing for Nebraska in 2004 and 2005. A native of North Platte, Neb., Woodhead came to NU after a standout prep career at North Platte High School. Injuries slowed her progress as a freshman and eventually forced her to redshirt her sophomore season, ultimately leading to her decision to stop playing. Woodhead remained active with the team, though, helping with administrative duties for two seasons. She graduates with a degree in elementary education.

Nebraska’s 2008 December class of graduates helped build on the Huskers’ great student-athlete tradition, which includes an NCAA-leading 268 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans across all sports. Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the nation with a Big 12-leading exhausted eligibility graduation rate of 93 percent.
