Brookings, S.D. - The Nebraska women’s
swimming and diving team earned its first dual meet victory of the season with
a 176-119 victory over South Dakota State on Friday evening in Brookings, S.D.
The Huskers won 11 of 16 events en route to the win.
Junior
Mariah Hutchinson led the way for the Huskers, earning three first-place
finishes on the evening, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:38.18), the
50-yard freestyle (24.96) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.55). Sophomore
Meredith Matthies claimed two victories, including the 200-yard butterfly
(2:09.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.42).
Senior Courtney Jolly set the pool record with a score of 294.65 on the one meter dive, setting a new team-high for the season in the one meter as well. Jolly also won the three meter dive to sweep the diving events.
Other winners on the day include Jess Andrews (200 Free), C.J. Bray (50 Back), Caroline Shea (200 Back) and the 400-yard medley relay team.
Friday’s victory marked the last competition the Huskers will swim in during the 2008 calendar year. They have over a month before they hit the pool again as they open up Big 12 play and host their first home dual against Kansas on Jan. 17.
