Lincoln ? The Huskers had five swimmers qualify for an “A” final during Session 6 of 7 of the Husker Invitational on Sunday morning. The session marked the final preliminary session of the four-day meet, and four finals events plus platform diving will take place on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskers had at least one swimmer qualify for both the “A” and “B” finals on Sunday afternoon in each of the four preliminary events on the morning, including the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly.
Brandie Kavalec (9th ? 2:09.40) qualified for the “A” finals in the 200 Back, Jess Andrews (6th ? 52.79) qualified in the 100 Free, tying her career-best time in the process, Kaitlin Arntz (7th ? 2:24.65) qualified in the 200 Breast, and Kelsey Grushecky (5th ? 2:08.25) and Blaine Hoppenrath (7th ? 2:08.85) qualified in the 200 Fly.
The Huskers, currently in fifth with 691.5 points, will have a chance to gain some ground on fourth-place Iowa State, which has 727 points. Rice is the current leader with 954.5 points.
Sunday's finals session begins and 2 p.m. and will be the seventh and final session of the Husker Invitational.
