Session 2: Huskers Notch Three Top-10 Times in 50 Free

Lincoln - The Huskers had a strong showing in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries in Session 2 of 7 of the Husker Invitational on Friday morning. Three Huskers qualified for the “A” finals of the event, which will take place during the Friday evening finals session which starts at 5 p.m.

Jess Andrews (23.96), C.J. Bray (24.17) and Jenna Stroud (24.50) all qualified for the “A” finals in the 50 Free, with Andrews swimming the fourth-fastest preliminary time, Bray the fifth-fastest and Stroud the 10th-fastest.

Kelsey Grushecky (24.64) and Hailey Dean (24.71) qualified for the “B” finals in the 50 Free, giving the Huskers five swimmers with the potential to score for the team in Friday's finals.

Mariah Hutchinson qualified for the “A” finals in the 500-yard freestyle, earning the 10th and final spot in the championship heat with a time of 5:06.98. Caroline Shea qualified for the “B” finals in the event with a time of 5:07.75.

The Huskers will have three Huskers in the scoring finals for the 200-yard IM, the third preliminary event during Friday morning's session. Meredith Matthies qualified for the “A” finals with a time of 2:09.70, while Christina Yemm (2:11.68) and Hailey Dean (2:12.27) qualified for the “B” finals.

Nebraska is primed to make a surge in the standings in Friday evening's finals session with 10 swimmers in the scoring finals heats. The Huskers are currently in fourth place with 95 points, trailing first-place Rice by 40.
