Huskers Sign Two for 2009-10

Nebraska men’s golf coach Bill Spangler announced the signing of two scholarship recruits for 2009-10 Thursday.

Neil Dufford, of Midland, Texas, and Brett Nymeyer, of Stratford, Ontario will join the Husker program next season.

Dufford has won back-to-back Texas 3A State championships. In 2008, he beat his nearest competitor by 10 strokes. Dufford also competed on the Texas Legends Junior Tour in 2008. In six tournaments, he recorded three top-10 finishes, including two third-place finishes, and totaled a 75.42 stroke average.

"Neil comes to us with national tournament experience, having played junior tournaments all over the country," Spangler said. "He's an excellent student and has a tremendous work ethic. He will have an opportunity to contribute immediately to our program."

Nymeyer, who is transferring from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, will be a junior in 2009-10. Nymeyer has won two tournament titles for the Warriors in his two years. In the spring of 2008, Nymeyer tied for third at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship and made the all-tournament team. This fall, Nymeyer led the Warriors in the final three tournaments of the season.

"He's one of the longest hitters off the tee in college golf," Spangler said. "Brett has proven himself a top player in NAIA competition, and that should help him tremendously in his transition to D-1 tournament play."
