Nebraska women’s golf coach Robin Krapfl announced on Wednesday, Nov. 19, that Erin Sharpee has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Huskers for the 2009-10 season.
Sharpee was one of seven golfers to earn first-team All-Wisconsin honors from the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association in the fall of 2008. Sharpee powered Green Bay Notre Dame to its third consecutive Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) team title by earning individual runner-up honors at the 2008 state tournament. Sharpee finished with a 36-hole total of 150 at the WIAA state tournament to lead Notre Dame to a 630 team total, the best score in WIAA state tournament history. She is the only Wisconsin golfer to ever play on three Division I championship teams.
Sharpee shot the Tritons into the state tournament by earning medalist honors with a 75 at the 2008 WIAA Division I sectional tournament on Oct. 7, 2008. She helped Notre Dame Academy, coached by Brian Bobinski, to a 24-stroke victory over Sheboygan North/South at the Thornberry Creek Country Club.
During her high school career, Sharpee was both the Fox River Classic Conference Player of the Year and the Green Bay Metro champion in 2006, 2007 and 2008. She garnered second-team all-state honors in 2006 and 2007, as well as all-conference and all-area honors for four years, while earning two trips to the USGA Junior Girls Championship.
In July of 2008, Sharpee captured the Wisconsin PGA Junior Championship in the girls 13-18 division with a three-under-par 141 over 36 holes at Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison, Wis. She also posted a third-place finish at the Pepsi Little Peoples Golf Championship, in addition to her third-place finish at the USGA Girls Junior Sectional Qualifier at Weldon Spring, Mo., in June.
Sharpee competed in the championship flight of the Women's Western National Junior Championship and had five top-10 finishes at FCWT events.
"We are very excited to have Erin join our team next year," Krapfl said. "She brings all of the qualities we like our student-athletes to possess, both on the course and in the classroom. She is a great student and a talented and experienced golfer who possesses above average length and a great touch around the greens. More importantly, she is a wonderful person from an outstanding family."
