Nebraska Hosts Four-Day Husker Invitational

The Nebraska swimming and diving team will host its first home meet of the season this week with the nine-team, four-day Husker Invitational at the Devaney Natatorium. The meet matches last year’s Husker Invitational for the longest ever home meet in school history, and the nine-team meet surpasses last year’s six-team Invite as the largest home meet in school history.

The first session begins Thursday evening at 5 p.m., and the meet hits full speed Friday with a 10 a.m. preliminary session and a 5 p.m. finals session. Action continues on Saturday with a 9 a.m. preliminary and 4 p.m. finals session, and will conclude on Sunday with an 8 a.m. preliminary and 2 p.m. finals session. Huskers.com will provide a recap after all seven preliminary and finals sessions.

Eight teams will join the Huskers in Lincoln for the meet, including Colorado State, Iowa State, Nebraska-Omaha, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Rice and South DakotaState.

The Huskers have a combined all-time dual record of 59-10 against the opponents in this year’s meet (12-6 vs. Colorado State, 27-4 vs. Iowa State, 11-0 vs Nebraska-Omaha, 1-0 vs. Northern Colorado, 4-0 vs. Northern Iowa, 4-0 vs. South Dakota State). The Huskers have not faced North Texas or Rice before.

Nebraska will look to repeat in this year’s Invite after running away with the title in last year’s meet. NU scored 1,519 points, beating second-place ColoradoState by nearly 300 points.

Although the Huskers haven’t faced any of the eight teams coming to Lincoln yet this season, they will meet three of them later in the year. Nebraska travels to South DakotaState on Dec. 12, Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 30 and IowaState on Jan. 31.

The Huskers will also be holding a special Thanksgiving food drive for the meet. Boxes will be placed outside the entrance to the Devaney Natatorium where fans can donate non-perishable food items that will be donated to families in the Lincoln area. Admission to the Husker Invitational is free.

Review: Jolly Shines at Minnesota Diving Invitational

Nebraska senior Courtney Jolly took home two titles at the Minnesota Diving Invitational over the weekend in Minneapolis. Jolly won both the one and three meter dives while finishing second on the platform.

Jolly earned her third and fourth wins of the season with the pair of victories in Minneapolis. She had a score of 283.50 in the one meter, defeating the second-place finalist by over 30 points. Jolly won the three meter dive with a score of 319.42. Both dives were season bests for Jolly, and her 319.42 score on the three meter board was a career best, beating her previous score of 297.97, which she set in 2005 against Northern Iowa. Jolly’s score of 221.47 on the platform was good for second place.

Sophomore Emily Burbach was a consistent performer for the Huskers as well in the meet, earning third place in all three competitions. She scored 237.00 on the one meter, 276.75 on the three meter and 201.75 on the platform. All three scores were career bests for the Lincoln native.

Freshman Tia Claps also dove for the Huskers in Minneapolis. Claps finished fifth in both the one and three meter dives and earned fourth place on the platform. Claps set season- and career-best scores in both the one and three meter dives, scoring 198.45 in the one meter and 208.80 in the three meter.
