Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if I’m registered? Or if I need to complete anything more to be registered?

You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your registration.  You will also receive an itinerary for the camp via e-mail.  You can check the status of your registration on-line here.

Do I need a medical release?
A medical release from your physician (dated within one year of the start of camp or later) OR a 2008-09 school physical form OR your physician's signature must be returned with the application.  Campers without the required documentation will not be allowed to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS.

What facilities will be used?

Camp will be held at Hawks Championship Center, UNL Soccer Field, and Memorial Stadium ? depending on the camp.  Please refer to your camp schedule for the specific facilities.

How do I get to the Hawks Championship Center?

The Hawks Championship Center is located directly northeast of Memorial Football Stadium on "Salt Creek Roadway" between 14th St. and Stadium Drive. You can download a map of campus here.

Where should I park?
University parking lots require a parking permit 24 hours a day.  Parking is available in meters throughout campus or in the Stadium parking garage located on the corner of “Stadium Drive” and “T” Street. Some of our camps will have parking permits available for purchase that will allow you to parking in the lot directly west of Hawks or in lots adjacent to the dorm during camps.  If you have not purchased a parking permit, do not park in a university lot as you will subject to receiving a ticket. Big Red Soccer Camp will not be responsible for any parking tickets issued while attending camp

Camp Check In/Check Out

Each camper (resident or commuter) must check in at the beginning of camp.  Campers will receive their t-shirt, ball, meal ticket and room key (if applicable).  Specific information as to the check-in location will be provided in your camp schedule.  All campers at overnight camps must be signed out by an adult at the end of the camp.  Please make sure your camper is properly checked out before you leave camp.

What should I bring?
All participating campers should bring appropriate workout gear and soccer equipment:

  • Cleats, Shin guards, Soccer Ball, Sun Screen, Water Bottles
  • Sack Lunch, if attending Day Camp

Please mark all of your equipment with your name with a permanent marker.

What should I NOT bring?

Can parents watch camp activities?

Yes ? parents are welcome to attend any of the camp sessions.  During Day Camp and Winter Academy, we ask that you watch from the upper balcony in Hawks.  During Goalkeeper and Elite Residential Camps, we ask that you watch from the upper balcony in Hawks, or from the stands at the Soccer Field or Memorial Stadium.

Athletic Trainer

Members of the University’s athletic training staff will be on hand for all sessions.  We recommend that each camper be in excellent physical condition.  This not only prevents injuries, but also makes the learning process much easier.  Please notify camp staff in advance of any special health conditions or health needs.

Camp Benefits

Each camper will receive an adidas Husker t-shirt, soccer ball and Gatorade products (during summer camp).

Housing during Residential Camps

Campers are housed two or three to a room in the air conditioned residence halls, depending on the hall we are assigned.  Roommate preferences can be indicated on the camp application.  Roommate assignments will be made by camp staff and are final.  NO changes will be made once assignments are made.

What should I bring if I’m staying in a dorm?

Each camper will be expected to bring their own towels, washcloth, and bedding. Housing provides sheets and a pillow/pillow case.  If you need more than what is provided, please bring the additional items.  Campers should bring personal toiletry items.  Feel free to bring any additional food/snacks.  Vending machines are available.  Ice is not available.  Typically each room has a small refrigerator in each room.

Will there be chaperones in the residence hall?

Our camp staff will be assigned to each floor in the residence hall.  Staff will stay overnight just like the campers.  University Housing requires no more than a 1 to 15 ratio of staff to campers.  Staff accompany campers to and from the residence hall and the camp facilities, and to meals.

Telephones

Beginning in 2009, the residence halls have removed telephones in each room.  Campers will not be able to make phone calls unless they bring a cell phone.  Staff will assist campers who need to call home.

Meals

Resident campers attending Goalkeeper or Elite Residential camp will receive breakfast, lunch and dinner as indicated on the camp schedule.  Commuter campers will receive lunch and dinner.

Campers attending Day Camp should bring a sack lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Day Campers will have a pizza lunch on Thursday.

Commuters at the Goalkeeper or Elite Residential Camp

Commuters need to check-in during registration and will receive their t-shirt and soccer ball.  They will also receive their meal ticket.  After the first day of camp, commuters can be dropped off and picked up at the Hawks Championship Center.

Airport transfers

Airport transfers are available upon request.

What if I need to cancel after I’ve registered?

Deposits are non-refundable. Refunds will be made in full with a note from a physician. Refunds will be made in full to campers whose team qualifies for nationals and are unable to attend camp as a result of national competition.
