The Nebraska rifle team wraps up the fall portion of its schedule Sunday with a match against the Murray State Racers at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kent. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
The Huskers are coming off losses to two of the nation's top teams in Kentucky and Alaska-Fairbanks. Sunday's match against the Racers will be another difficult test for the Husker squad, as Murray State was a top-10 team in the preseason College Rifle Coaches Association rankings.
"We have been working hard and fine-tuning some things and as a team, we are looking forward to the Murray State match so we can go out there and prove how good of a team we are," NU Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. "We really need to have a strong win here to finish out the fall semester. It is always good to finish on a strong note before a break."
The match will be a homecoming of sorts for Hicks. Hicks graduated from Murray State in 2004 after capturing an air rifle national championship and earning All-American honors eight times in her career. She coached the Racers in 2006-07, leading the team to a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships, before becoming NU's head coach last season.
