The 5th-ranked Nebraska rifle team opens its 2008 season in Reno, Nev., Sunday at 9 a.m. against No. 7 Nevada-Reno. The Huskers, fresh off a fourth-place finish at last year's NCAA Championship, are aiming for a top three finish this year. Head Coach Morgan Hicks hopes the Huskers can start the season off on a positive note and improve with every match.
"I am excited to start our season after weeks of practices," Hicks said. "The girls are ready and Nevada-Reno should be a great match to start their season off with some strong scores."
With no seniors on this year's roster, the Huskers will rely on All-American junior Amanda Jeffries and fellow junior Christine Costello to lead the way while the younger Huskers gain more experience.
"I am looking for the upperclassmen to start off strong and to help encourage the freshmen to do so as well," Hicks said. "I feel we are so far ahead of where we were last year and I am excited to see how we start this season."
