Lincoln ? Former Nebraska baseball player Quinton Robertson was honored recently as one of 20 national winners of the Academic Momentum Award, presented by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS).
Robertson was one of two former Husker athletes recognized this week, joining former track and field performer Nikita Eades, as the two winners from the Rocky Mountain Region. In all, a total of 63 student-athletes from around the country were nominated for the 2008 honors.
Robertson, who pitched at Nebraska in 2003 and 2004 before being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 MLB Draft, returned to Nebraska following his professional career and began completing his degree. Roberson finished his final three semesters at Nebraska and received his degree in sociology in May of 2008.
The NCAS, located in Orlando, Fla., is an ever-growing organization of colleges and universities that provides opportunities for current and former student-athletes to continue their pursuit of higher education, while working in the community with children to address social issues. Established in 1985, the overall mission of the NCAS is “to create a better society by focusing on educational attainment and using the power appeal of sport to positively affect social change.”
