Eades Honored with Academic Momentum Award

Lincoln ? Nebraska women’s track and field athlete Nikita Eades was recently honored as one of 20 student-athletes from across the country to receive the Academic Momentum Award by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS).

Eades, a biological sciences major, has performed well in the classroom and on the track for Head Coach Gary Pepin. As only a sophomore in 2008, she placed in three events at the Big 12 Championships and was a member of the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay that set the school record at the Drake Relays.

Eades was joined by former Nebraska baseball player Quinton Robertson as an award winner. Eades and Robertson were selected as the two winners from the Rocky Mountain Region. In all, a total of 63 student-athletes from around the country were nominated for the 2008 honors.

The NCAS is an ever-growing organization of colleges and universities that provides opportunities for current and former student-athletes to continue their pursuit of higher education, while working in the community with children to address social issues.  Established in 1985, the overall mission of the NCAS is “to create a better society by focusing on educational attainment and using the power appeal of sport to positively affect social change.”

Each honoree will receive a recognition certificate and authentic Scholar-Baller patch.  In addition, the winners of each region will receive a Thinkman or Thinkwoman Trophy for their academic performances.
