Lincoln - A total of 16 former Huskers saw action in Week 6 of the NFL, while three players were off due to the a bye week and another four were out with injury.
With an injured Brian Westbrook on the sidelines, Correll Buckhalter was called upon to carry the load for the Philadelphia Eagles. Buckhalter responded with 18 carries for 93 yards (5.2 yard average) and one touchdown. Buckhalter was quarterback Donovan McNabb’s favorite target as he caught seven balls for 85 yards, including a 25-yard strike. On the day, Buckhalter accounted for 178 yards of total offense and former Blackshirt Stewart Bradley totaled nine tackles in the Eagles’ 40-26 drumming of the San Francisco 49ers.
Josh Brown had a huge day for the St. Louis Rams against the Washington Redskins as his four field goals, including the game-winner, got the Rams in the win column for the first time all season. Brown was a perfect 4 of 4 from 51, 25, 44 and 49 yards. After a 43-yard completion to rookie Donnie Avery with time running down, Brown had an almost automatic attempt from 34 yards, but an unsportsmanlike penalty moved the attempt back 15 yards to a 49-yard attempt. Even with the added distance, Brown had no problem knocking in the game-winner. The kick propelled the Rams over NFC East power Washington, 19-17.
Kris went 3 of 3 from 27, 33 and 42 yards and knocked in two extra points for the Houston Texans. Brown was joined by Ahman Green who carried the ball eight times for 41 yards, an average of 5.1 yards per carry. The two former Huskers helped the Houston Texans hold off the Miami Dolphins 29-28 to notch Houston’s first win of the year.
Daniel Bullocks was all over the field for the Detroit Lions as the former Blackshirt totaled double-digit tackles for the second time this season with 10 (nine solo) stops and forced an Adrian Peterson fumble on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Bullocks effort came up just short as the Vikings barely defended their home turf, 12-10.
In New Orleans, Josh Bullocks and Scott Shanle combined for nine tackles and three pass deflections in the Saints’ 34-3 domination of the Oakland Raiders.
