Lincoln-Senior goalkeeper Brittany Pfeil made a career-high seven saves, but the Nebraska women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 7 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Friday. The Huskers slide to 7-6-1 overall and 3-2 in the Big 12, while the Aggies stay undefeated in the conference at 4-0-1 and move to 11-1-1 overall.
NU battled A&M to a 0-0 draw at halftime as Pfeil made all seven of her saves in the first frame. Nebraska came out on the offensive attack early in the second period. The Huskers had several scoring opportunities early in the stanza on corner kicks, but could not find the back of the net due to the play of A&M goalkeeper Kelly Dyer, who made three saves on the game.
Pfeil finally let a ball past in the 63rd minute when A&M’s Whitney Hooper made a brilliant run into the box and beat Pfeil low from the right corner of the six-yard box. Pfeil was replaced in the 83rd minute by converted midfielder Julie Berkshire in an attempt to give Nebraska more offensive pressure, but the Aggies sealed the game in the 87th minute with Hooper’s second goal.
The Huskers earned 12 shots, directing four on goal, while A&M collected 20 shots and nine shots on goal. NU created six total corner kicks and committed nine fouls. Senior midfielder Selenia Iacchelli led the team with three shots, putting two on goal, while Colleen Goetzmann, Molly Thomas and Aysha Jamani all had two shots apiece.
Nebraska returns home to face No. 22 Colorado next Friday at 4 p.m. at the Nebraska Soccer Field.
