Huskers Tie for Seventh at Fairway Club Invitational

Nebraska City - The Nebraska men's golf team improved its team score by 11 strokes to tie for seventh at the Fairway Club Invitational at ArborLinks Golf Course Tuesday. The Huskers bettered their first round 305 with a 294 final round to finish at 599 for the invite, which was shortened to 36 holes after inclement weather Monday.

Junior Brandon Crick led the way Tuesday with a one-under-par 71, making him the only Husker to post a round below par for the competition. Crick jumped into a tie-for-13th place finish with a two-round total of 148.

Sophomores Mike Coatman and Tyler Parsloe finished tied for 18th at 149. Coatman shot an even-par 72 in the final round and Parsloe recorded a 75.

Chris Bruening rounded out the Huskers' team score with a 153. Bruening tied for 37th place. Freshman Austin Zimmerman, playing in his first collegiate tournament, recorded his second-straight 81 and tied for 58th at 162.

Among the Husker individuals competing: Scott Willman tied for 49th at 157 and Brett Sundberg tied for 50th at 158.

South Dakota State captured the team title with a 580, two strokes better than closest competitior Western Illinois. Shane Pearce of Texas-Pan American shot 139 to win the individual title by one stroke over South Dakota State's Trent Peterson.

The Huskers are back in action Sept. 15-16 at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
