Coatman Finishes Career-Best 11th Place

Lawrence, Kan. - Nebraska sophomore Mike Coatman finished in 11th place at the Kansas Invitational Tuesday at Alvamar Golf Club and the Huskers tied for 8th with a team score of 895.

Coatman used a final-round 73 to give him a total of 219 (3-over par) for the tournament. The 11th-place finish is a career best for Coatman and his third-straight top-20 finish dating back to last year's Big 12 Championship. Coatman opened the fall season last week with a tie-for-18th finish at the Fairway Club Invitational.

A Lincoln Southwest graduate, Coatman leads the Huskers with a 73.6 stroke average this fall. He has gained confidence and elevated his collegiate play since qualifying for the U.S. Amateur in August, where he nearly made the 64-man final cut.

Among other Husker golfers, Tyler Parsloe finished tied for 22nd at the Kansas Invitational with a career-best 223. Parsloe competed in five tournaments as a freshman last year, finishing no better than 51st in a tournament and averaging 77.88 strokes. But the sophomore from Littleton, Colo. has also started off the year strong, recording a 74.4 stroke average through two tournaments, second best on the team.

Brandon Crick's final round 78 dropped him into a tie-for-28th place at 224. Crick started the day tied for 10th with Coatman. Scott Willman finished 55th at 230 and Chris Bruening tied for 61st with a 232. Brett Sundberg was the top individual player in the field, tying for 39th with a 227, both career bests.

UC-Davis, led by individual medalist Austin Graham (210) won the team title with an 865.

Nebraska has next week off before heading to Pebble Beach, Calif., for the St. Mary's College Invitational Sept. 29-30. The Huskers hope to have Andrew Wyatt and Mark Pillen, regulars from last year's lineup, back from injury by then.
