Former Husker Nicole Trimboli was named the Most Valuable Player of the National Pro Fastpitch League Championship Series on Sunday, Aug. 24, as her stellar play helped lead the Chicago Bandits to the NPF title.
Chicago defeated the Washington Glory, 6-4, to capture the title and end its season with a 15-game winning streak. The championship was the first-ever postseason title for the Bandits, who have also won three regular-season crowns. In the championship game, Trimboli homered, walked and scored twice. She helped lead the Bandits into the final game with a key two-run home run late in Chicago's 4-1 victory in game one.
In the three games, Trimboli collected MVP honors after hitting .556 (5-for-9) with two homers, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base.
Trimboli is in her fifth season playing professionally. A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Trimboli is entering her second season as an assistant coach for the Colorado School of Mines. She was a three-time All-Big 12 selection for the Huskers from 2001 to 2004 and helped lead Nebraska to three Big 12 titles and the 2002 Women's College World Series. Trimboli spend the 2005 season as the Huskers' volunteer undergraduate assistant coach, before accepting an assistant coaching position at the University of Maine in 2006.
Trimboli left her name in the Husker record books, as she ranks second in school history with 772 career at bats and 173 RBIs. Overall, Trimboli ranks in the top five in seven different NU career offensive categories
