Huskers, Anteaters Attract Nation's Top Regional Crowd

Lincoln, Neb. - The 2008 NCAA Lincoln Regional has been the top ticket among the nation's 16 regional sites through the first two days of NCAA Tournament competition. Through four games, Hawks Field has welcomed a nation-leading 19,417 fans to the ballpark, including the nation's top single-game crowd of 8,646 for Nebraska's game with UC Irvine on Saturday night.

Saturday night's crowd at Hawks Field was the second-largest NCAA Lincoln Regional crowd in school history, and the seventh-largest overall attendance in Hawks Field history. It was also the third crowd of more than 8,600 at Hawks Field this season, including a season-high 8,708 for NU's regular-season game against Texas A&M on May 9, and 8,697 fans for NU's game with Kansas on April 19.

Nebraska's big crowd on Saturday night in the winner's bracket game against UC Irvine surpassed the 7,498 fans in attendance for LSU's win over Southern Miss at Alex Box Stadium in the Baton Rouge Regional. The Baton Rouge Regional also ranks second in actual attendance around the nation through four games with 18,481 fans in the stands. LSU has sold more than 7,300 tickets for each of the first four games in the regional, but actual attendance has ranged from 1,333 to 7,498 through four games. The paid attendance for LSU's win over Southern Miss was 8,012.

The Houston Regional has drawn 17,702 fans to rank third nationally through the first two days of tournament action, while the Tallahassee Regional has attracted 16,120 fans. The College Station Regional rounds out the nation's top-five draws with 14,578 fans entering Sunday's action.

Nebraska continues home action in the NCAA Lincoln Regional on Sunday when the Huskers take on Oral Roberts in an elimination game at 1:05 p.m. If the Huskers can get past the Golden Eagles, they will face UC Irvine in the first regional championship game at 6:05 p.m.
