Huskers Finish 11th at Big 12 Championship

Trinity, Texas - The Nebraska men's golf team recorded a 317 final round Sunday at the Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club. The Huskers finished in 11th place, with a final team score of 1,225.

The young Husker squad was led by freshman Mike Coatman. Coatman hung around the top ten through three rounds, but shot a 7-over par 79 in the final round to slip into a tie for 16th place at 295. The finish was still a career best for Coatman.

Andrew Wyatt shot a 4-over par 76 on Sunday, the best final round score of any Husker. Wyatt finished the tournament tied for 39th place at 306.

Tyler Parsloe, Trent Price and Mark Pillen all shot 9-over par 81 in the final round. Parsloe finished in 51st place with a 315. Price ended up with 318 and tied for 54th. Pillen tied for 56th with a 320.

Oklahoma State captured its second consecutive Big 12 title. The Cowboys closed out their impressive weekend with a 19 stroke win, scoring an 11-under par 1,141. It marks OSU's sixth Big 12 title and 51st all-time conference title, including the Missouri Valley Conference, Big 8 and Big 12.

Rickie Fowler, a freshman from Oklahoma State, was the individual champion. Fowler, who was rated No. 1 in the Big 12 entering the tournament, played as expected, finishing with a 9-under par 279. He finished four strokes ahead of teammate, Kevin Tway.

The 11th-place finish likely ended Nebraska’s chances of qualifying for NCAA regional competition, although official word will come later this week.
