Athens, Ga. ? Senior Emily Parsons capped her Husker career with a runner-up finish on beam at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Event Finals at the University of Georgia’ Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday night. Parsons, an 11-time All-American from St. Charles, Mo., posted a score of 9.90 to tie for second on the event.
Parsons received one mark of 9.95, three 9.90s and a 9.85 from the six-judge panel.
Senior Desire’ Sniatynski also competed in event finals for the first time, placing 12th with a score of 9.8375. The Kenosha, Wis., native tallied two scores of 9.90, one 9.85 and three 9.80s, and finishes her career as a four-time All-American.
“I’m very proud of Emily and Desire’ for the tremendous job they did tonight at event finals,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “I’m happy that Emily was able to finish second on beam ? that’s impressive, especially when it was her only event and she had quite a while to wait through the second flight. Desire’ also had a tough rotation to compete in, but she went out strong and hit her routine.
“The sad part is that two incredible careers ended tonight. Our two seniors were first-team All-Americans, and they have left an outstanding legacy as a class. What will be missed most is their competitiveness and desire to excel.”
The University of Nebraska plays host to the 2009 NCAA Championships in Lincoln, Neb. The three-day competition will run April 16-18 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
“This weekend has helped lay the groundwork for the type of season we are out to accomplish next year in 2009,” Kendig said. “I’m optimistic and excited about Nebraska Gymnastics, and next year starts right now. One year from now, we will host the NCAA Championships in Lincoln. We know that accomplishing the journey for that weekend will only be by hard work and focus for the next 12 months.”
