Five Nebraska gymnasts were named Academic All-Conference Mountain Pacific Sports Federation scholar athletes this week, including seniors Stephen T?trault and Eric Daigle, and sophomores Garret Durst, Kyle Shanahan and Josh Rusler.
Student-athletes selected for this award must be at least a sophomore in standing and own a grade-point average of 3.0 or better. They must also have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the award and competed in at least 50 percent or more of the institution's competitions for the season.
This is the second consecutive year Nebraska has had more than two athletes selected since the conference began choosing an Academic All-Conference team in 2001.
T?trault, a three-time MPSF Academic scholar-athlete, holds a team-high grade-point average of 3.73 as a mathematics and pre-med major. Recently, T?trault was named the Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year for his outstanding achievements both athletically and academically. He is also a two-time College Gymnastics Association Scholastic All-American, as well as a six-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Daigle earns his second MPSF academic honor following his final season with the Huskers. An industrial technology education major, Daigle holds a 3.45 grade-point average. He is also a four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and was honored this week at the Nebraska HERO Leadership Recognition Breakfast for demonstrating outstanding leadership and citizenship.
Durst, Rusler and Shanahan each earn their first MPSF academic honors. Durst and Rusler hold 3.35 and 3.69 grade-point averages, respectively, both in broadcasting, while Shanahan owns a 3.12 in international business.
All five student-athletes will be recognized at the 2007 Nebraska Women and Men’s Gymnastics Awards Banquet, which will be held on Saturday, May 3, in Lincoln.
