Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team won its ninth straight match on Sunday with a 7-0 sweep of the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The sweep is NU's eighth out of nine matches this season, and the Huskers have outscored their opponents 62-1 so far this season.
The Huskers got off to a fast start, taking the doubles point with three quick victories, including a pair of 8-1 victories at Nos. 1 and 3 and an 8-2 victory at No. 2. Head Coach Scott Jacobson utilized a new duo in the match, pairing freshman Abby Buxton with fellow freshman Amber Chandronnait at No. 3 doubles. Chandronnait had played all of her doubles matches so far this season with freshman Stephanie Evans.
Jacobson also inserted junior Marianne Cicmanec into the singles lineup for the first time this year. Cicmanec, who played in every match for NU a year ago and won a combined 17 matches, was impressive in her 2008 debut, recording a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. Stephanie Evans rebounded from her first singles loss of the year on Friday against Iowa State with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own at No. 5 singles.
Imke Reimers improved to 9-0 at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Bryce Kristal, while Jana Albers, Wiveca Swarting and Chandronnait each won their ninth singles match as well this season, as they each notched straight-set victories.
The Huskers will look to improve on their undefeated record next weekend with two home matches, against Air Force on Friday, Feb. 29 and Northern Iowa on Sunday, March 2.
