Weiss Wins Smallbore in Loss to TCU

Lincoln ? The Nebraska rifle team returned home to the NU Rifle Range for the first time in nearly three months Saturday, falling 4,641-4,627 to TCU.

Senior Kirsten Weiss led the Huskers in smallbore, finishing first with a season-best 583. The Cornwall, Pa., native was just one point shy of a perfect score in kneeling.

With Weiss as NU’s top scorer, sophomore Christine Costello followed up in second place with a season-high 579. Senior Kim Chrostowski added a 566 mark for seventh, and sophomore Amanda Jeffries contributed a 563, helping Nebraska to a team total of 2,291 behind TCU’s 2,294.

Jeffries led the way in air rifle with a runner-up showing and a season-high 587 mark. In addition, freshman Elisha LaFond put up a 585 for fifth, and Costello’s 584 left her in sixth. Chrostowski added a 580, giving the Huskers a team score of 2,336.

“We shot much better as a team today,” Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. “We had a team goal of a 580 average in air rifle, and we achieved that and are seeing some improvements. Although we didn’t win, it was a good home match for us and was a step in the right direction to getting us back on track.”
