NU Edged by Navy at Palmyra Invite

Palmyra, Pa. -- The Nebraska rifle team competed at the Palmyra Invite as well as a shoulder-to-shoulder match with Navy on Sunday, narrowly falling to the Midshipmen by just one point, 4,583-4,582.

In smallbore, the Huskers (2,267) outshot Navy (2,266), led by senior Kirsten Weiss’ 574 performance to tie with defending NCAA champion Josh Albright. Sophomore Amanda Jeffries added a 565, while senior Kim Chrostowski and sophomore Christine Costello matched marks of 564.

Freshman Elisha LaFond starred for NU in air rifle, posting a score of 583 to place fourth. Jeffries earned a 578, and Costello and freshman Ryan McGough put up a pair of 577s. The Huskers totaled a 2,315 team score, just two points shy of Navy’s 2,317.

“Losing to Navy by just one point was tough,” Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. “It was a rough weekend. Our team can do better than this, and we need to pull things together before NCAA Qualifiers. I’m looking for our team to rebound with a strong match against TCU at home."

Nebraska returns to action with TCU on Jan. 26 at the NU Rifle Range at 9 a.m.
